Jameis Winston and Florida State rally to win National Championship

Jameis Winston sealed the third national championship in Florida State’s history with a two-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin with 13 seconds remaining in the game against the Auburn Tigers, 34-31.

Winston, the MVP of the title game, went 6-of-7 for 77 yards in the Seminoles’ game-winning drive that snapped the SEC’s streak of seven straight national championship game victories.

The Seminoles rallied back in the second half after trailing the Tigers, 21-10, halftime. The Seminoles’ rally from an 18-point deficit was the largest deficit to be overcome in the national title game during the BCS era, that started in 1998.

Not only did Winston turn 20 years old on the day of the game but he also became the third quarterback since 1950 to finish the season undefeated with a national championship and winning the Heisman Trophy.

Tre Mason led the Tigers offensive attack in the loss with 195 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Mason also contributed to the air attack with 42 yards and another touchdown.
