Spurs reach deal with Patty Mills, despite news of shoulder surgery

By James H. Williams

Patty Mills and San Antonio  Spurs agree to a 3-year deal on July 2nd.

It was announced earlier that same day, that Mills will miss 6-7 months after he undergoes shoulder surgery.

Mills played a key role for the Spurs in the 2013-14 NBA Finals against the Miami Heat.

Mills was notable in the finals for his shooting performance in Game 5, scoring a playoff career-high 17 points with 14 of those points coming in the third quarter.

He also averaged 10.2 points per game in the regular season.

Mills’ shoulder surgery will cause the point guard to miss the early part of the upcoming NBA season and rules him out of the FIBA Basketball World Cup for Australia.

The FIBA World Cup will take place from Aug. 30 to Sept. 14.
