(VIDEO) Tony Stewart will not race Sunday following Kevin Ward Jr. incident

By James H. Williams

UPDATE: Tony Stewart will not participate in the Sprint Cup Series race at the Watkins Glen International on Sunday. Stewart was involved in an incident that lead to the passing of Kevin Ward Jr. Saturday evening during a Sprint Car race at Canandaigua (New York) Motorsports Park.

Stewart and Ward’s vehicles collided during the race and while Stewart managed to continue driving in the race, Ward’s car spun off the track. Ward got out of his car and appeared upset at Stewart, as he walked onto the dirt track while cars were passing by during the race.

Stewart’s car clipped Ward as he walked toward the moving car and was thrown several yards. Ward was pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital as a result of the injuries he suffered, according to Ontario County Sheriff Philip Povero.

Stewart “is very upset” and “has been fully cooperative,” according to Povero.
