Fisher hits clutch shot in final seconds against Mavericks

Derek Fisher made the game-winning three point shot with 3.1 seconds left in the 4th quarter to get the Los Angeles Lakers back on track with a victory against the Dallas Mavericks,73-70, on Monday at Staples Center.

Fisher made the only three point shot for the Lakers after missing their first nine attempts against the Mavericks.

Lakers had the halftime lead over the Mavericks 39-35 but could not get their offense going to keep that lead as they came out of the locker room after halftime.

Mavericks only allowed the Lakers to score seven points in the entire third quarter.

The Mavericks scored 16 points of their own to lead 51-46 at the end of the third quarter.

Mavericks forward Lamar Odom came off the bench to a standing ovation from Lakers’ fans in his return back to Staples Center since being traded from the Lakers in the off-season.

Odom scored 10 points with four rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes off the bench.

Forward Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks with 21 points, seven rebounds, and one assist.

Mavericks guard Vince Carter missed the potential game -tying three point shot against the Lakers in the final seconds of the fourth quarter.

Carter appeared to have injured his left foot after taking the shot but after the game, the X-rays on Carter’s foot came back negative.

Center Andrew Bynum led the charge against the Mavericks with 17 points, 15 rebounds, and two assists for the Lakers. Bynum also had one block and one steal.

Lakers guard Kobe Bryant made seven of his 22 shooting attempts for 14 points.

Bryant had his 40-plus points in a game streak end at four games after his 14-point performance on Monday.

Bryant also had seven assists and three rebounds against the Mavericks.

The Lakers will play the Miami Heat on Thursday.

The Heat are on a three game losing streak as of Monday, but will try to pick up a win on Tuesday against the San Antonio Spurs before playing the Lakers.

The Mavericks will play the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.

The Clippers had a victory against the Lakers on Saturday.
