New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady lost two of his offensive weapons in receiver Wes Welker and running back Danny Woodhead in a two day period, after previously taking a pay cut to help re-sign players.
Welker, who had been with the team for the past six years, parted ways with the Patriots after being unable to agree on a new deal leaving him to test the waters as a free agent.
The Denver Broncos signed Welker on March 13th to a 2-year deal worth $12 million.
The Patriots final offer to the receiver was $10 million for the same time frame.
Despite switching uniforms, Welker will still remain in a huddle with a veteran quarterback, this time it is Peyton Manning.
During his nine years in the NFL, three with the Miami Dolphins and six with New England, Welker has 768 career catches for 8,580 yards and 38 touchdowns.
Welker will now increase his career totals as a member of the Broncos, that finished second in total offense for the 2012 season behind the Patriots.
Manning and the Broncos were also fifth in total passing offense behind the Patriots, who finished fourth.
The other weapon to leave New England was Woodhead, who signed with the San Diego Chargers on March 15th to a two-year deal.
The Patriots have began the process of filling in the voids left behind with former St. Louis Rams receiver Danny Amendola.
Amendola signed a five-year deal worth $31 million.
The Patriots have also signed former safety Adrian Wilson and have interest in signing former Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney.
