The NFL finally announced their verdict regarding Aldon Smith on August 29.
The league concluded that Smith will be suspended for the first 9 games of the season. His suspension, stems from a DUI of September of last year, along with an airport incident that occurred earlier this year.
Along with these incidents, Smith was also convicted of possessing illegal assault rifles in 2012.
Due to the fact that Smith’s representatives and the league were at slow talks, the punishment was only announced today.
The suspension will be a blow for the defensive end of the San Francisco 49ers.
For the past three seasons, the 49ers have been super bowl contenders. The team will have to quickly adjust to the absence of Aldon Smith.
Fortunately, Smith will be able to return as soon as November 10. The 49ers will face the Seahawks twice after Smith’s suspension is complete.
