Week 2 NFL Predictions:
Tamba Bay Buccaneers vs. NY Giants
I got the Giants in this one. I just cannot see the defending Super Bowl champions starting a season 0-2. Josh Freeman had a decent game last week against a very average Carolina Panthers pass defense and will go up against a much better pass defense this week that didn’t play too well last week but I think they’ll bounce back. LeGarrette Blount will need to step up and have a huge game against a run defense that looked terrible last week allowing DeMarco Murray 131 yards in the game if the Bucs want any chance because the Giants will not at all be willing to drop to 0-2 after winning a Super Bowl.
Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Not even a question, I am taking the Texans. Their defense is too good to fall to Blaine Gabbert. While I still think Maurice Jones-Drew will still go for between 120-150 yards rushing, Arian Foster will match his contribution and Andre Johnson will carry his team over the Jags.
Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals
It will be interesting to see how rookie QB Brandon Weeden bounces back from what was not a very good NFL debut at all where he threw four interceptions without a single touchdown. Even if Weeden has a bounce back game, I don’t think they have enough to defeat Andy Dalton and the Bengals. The Bengals new running back and ex-Patriot BenJarvus Green-Ellis has scored at least one touchdown in his past seven games and that streak will be extended as well.
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Buffalo Bills
This will be a good game to watch as both teams look to try and get their first wins of the season. But I still think that the Bills will take this one after an upsetting week in Week 1 against the Jets. Ryan Fitzpatrick will throw for 250 yards and Steve Johnson will have a big week as a result.
Baltimore Ravens vs. Philadelphia Eagles
As good as the Ravens defense is, I think Michael Vick will do what he needs to in order to get it done for the Eagles this week. He had a chance to have a big game against a pedestrian Browns defense but failed. However, there is too much pressure on Vick this week for him to not get it done. The Eagles need to have a successful season this year and with weapons like Vick and running back LeSean McCoy, they will have one.
New Orleans Saints vs. Carolina Panthers
This may come to be a big surprise but I am taking the Panthers here. Cam Newton is going to have another very efficient game. As much as I can’t see the Saints going 0-2, I think Newton will become too much to handle just like Robert Griffin III was for them last week against the Washington Redskins.
Arizona Cardinals vs. New England Patriots
I am taking the Patriots. Not only because they are my team but because I think their defense is a completely new looking group this year. The group’s new additions, rookies Dont’a Hightower, Chandler Jones and Tavon Wilson all had a contribution in their NFL debut last week and Tom Brady will have one of his typical good games as I think their running back Stevan Ridley will become an elite back in the league in a couple of years. The Patriots will just be too much for the Cardinals to handle.
Minnesota Vikings vs. Indianapolis Colts
I am taking the Vikings here. Andrew Luck didn’t have the debut he probably wish he had but I think he will come back and have a 200+ yard game but the Vikings with a healthy Adrian Peterson and a good looking defense will be too much for the Colts.
Washington Redskins vs. St. Louis Rams
Redskins here. I think Robert Griffin III will have another great game. Sam Bradford might have a good game as well but still the Skins will be too much.
Dallas Cowboys vs. Seattle Seahawks
I have the Cowboys taking this one. Tony Romo will have another good game just like las week and DeMarco Murray will also put up another 100+ yard rushing game. Seahawks rookie QB Russell Wilson will have a spotlight on him as well after failing to succeed last week. Even though I think Wilson will have a good game, the Cowboys will take this.
NY Jets vs. Pittsburg Steelers
This will be an ultimate battle of defense. However, with Jets star cornerback Derrell Revis out, the Steelers will be too good. Roethlisberger will outplay Mark Sanchez (or Tim Tebow) whichever of the two plays on Sunday and the Steelers will take this.
Tennessee Titans vs. San Diego Chargers
The Titans will take this. Even though they had a pretty bad performance last week against the Patriots, I think that was more the Patriots defense than the Titans offense failing to get it done. The Chargers almost lost to the Raiders even with the terrible game San Diego had and I don’t think they’re getting any better this season.
Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers will take this. Their defense is looking really good this year and their offense is as well. Calvin Johson will have a good game along with Mathew Stafford bouncing back but the Niners just look too good right now.
Denver Broncos vs. Atlanta Falcons
I have the Broncos winning here. Peyton Manning looks too much like his old self to get outplayed by Matt Ryan. Even though I think Ryan will have a good game giving Julio Jones a good game as well, Manning is too much on his own. Michael Turner may end up becoming the deciding factor for the Falcons here. I still think this will be one of the best Monday Night Football games of the season.
